It is healthy to have a full conversation with yourself especially when it is solely about YOURSELF. If you needed permission to check in with yourself, well, you got one. Self-care is important for maintaining emotional, mental, and physical well-being. Asking yourself certain questions daily can help guide your self-care routines, ensure you're meeting your needs, and stay connected to your inner self. Here are some quick and thoughtful questions people can ask themselves every day for self-care, aka self love:
How am I feeling today, emotionally and physically?
Checking in with your mind and body connections and communications. Checking in with yourself allows you to identify any signs of stress, fatigue, or discomfort, and take steps to address them. In my culture, what is sleep? What is being tired? You can only be tired if you are physically unwell. With that state of mind comes your body breaking down from the inside out unbeknownst to you until, you are laid out across a supermarket aisle all because you were too "busy" to sit your butt down for 5 mins right after your body made you feel light headed, creeping migraine, dizziness, weakness, winded, etc. Still, you kept on going. To prove what? That you have hospital bill money?
I'm going off track here, #apologies.
Challenge: Listen to your body for a week. Give your body just the bare minimum of basic needs for humans, when it it craving it. Get your mind to trust that YOU love your body.
Basic needs: food, shelter, water, emotional safety.
What do I need most right now—rest, activity, connection, or solitude?
Your needs will change from day to day. Reflecting on what your body or mind craves helps you prioritize what to focus on. Sometimes we are actually upset and cranky because we are hungry and need a nap. For me, more often than not, I need solitude. That is how I "recharge and reset".
How do you refill?
What can I do today to take care of my mental health?
Whether it’s meditation, journaling, therapy, or setting boundaries, this question helps direct your actions toward nurturing your mental well-being. Everyone needs an outlet but, might not have a special someone or a close relative or friend.
Mediation - with Self.
Journaling - with Self.
Therapy - could be with Self AND a license professional.
Setting boundaries - starts with Self.
Have I eaten enough and nourished my body with the right foods today?
Nutrition plays a huge role in how we feel. This question prompts you to be mindful of your diet and ensure you're eating in a way that supports your energy levels, mind and overall health. Sometimes we have to eat where, when and what we can due to lack of time and energy. No one should be judged for stopping at a fast food restaurant on your way home from work or, dinner for breakfast tonight.
However, when your ONLY source of nutrition and energy is from processed and reprocessed foods, the sluggish, foggy and poor gut and skin appearance starts to present itself.
Did I drink enough water today?
Hydration is key to feeling good physically and mentally. This question reminds you to take care of your hydration needs, especially when life gets busy. When was the last time you went #1, dehydrated Boo? If you haven't urinated in the last few hours, drink some more water please. There's so many different water recipes that one can try or create on their own from using fruits and veggies. Or, purchase the water flavors that are zero calories, sugar, etc.
We all know the benefits of staying hydrated. Let's stop the foolishness and drink water already.
There are so many more questions that I always ask myself throughout my check-ins of the day, week and/or month. This is part one of a self care/self love series I am inspired to create. Hope to see you SOON in part two!!
Do you have daily self-check-ins?
Yes, absolutely!
No, what is that and why?
Hmm, I'm interested
